Pedra Furada, with a tide-led plan
Start with a same-day assessment of the Praia da Malhada coastal approach and an agreed return window. Leave enough time to look at the different rock forms rather than aiming only for the arch. The shoreline option depends on low water; the Serrote alternative has a demanding descent and is not an automatic safe fallback. If the route is unsuitable, choose a different outing instead of squeezing past waves. A photograph from farther back can show the arch’s relationship to the sea better than standing directly beneath it.
Editorial allowance: a half-day with breaks and contingency; not an official route time.
