The short polder circuit
The tourist office publishes a 3.2 km circuit for discovering the polder. Start your planning at the Barbâtre tourist office on Rue du Polder, or download its current walking guide before you arrive. The mapped Les portes de l’île approach reaches the polder 0.7 km from that office; this is an approach reference, not the length of the short circuit. At the reserve, use the entrance information and current signs to identify the permitted short circuit. Keep your outing there rather than automatically continuing on the long island walk. Choose a couple of unhurried viewing stops and allow everyone a turn with the binoculars. Retrace your permitted access route when finished.
Allow for the approach as well as the circuit. Obtain current surface and barrier information if using wheels or managing limited walking stamina; no continuous accessible route is promised here.
