Nishi-Tachikawa: lake, ginkgo and Open Field
Enter at Nishi-Tachikawa Gate and pause on an open lakeside path. Follow pedestrian signs towards the Katarai Ginkgo Avenue, then the Stream Area on the west side of the Open Field. Pick a comfortable place to stop and look towards the great zelkova. Return by suitable open pedestrian paths to the same gate. The operator gives about three minutes from the gate to the lake, seven to the ginkgo avenue, ten to the Stream Area and fifteen to the Open Field; these are separate direct approaches, not successive legs to add together.
Keep the return flexible. The ginkgo avenue has rises and dips, and parts of the Stream Area use woodchips. Ask gate staff for a route that suits your wheelchair or stroller and shorten the visit to the lake if necessary.
