El Encinarejo: a short riverside out-and-back
Locate the official El Encinarejo trail beside the Puente de Hierro, then follow its signed riverside direction towards the dam. Start with only 15–20 minutes of outward walking at your group’s pace, pausing where there is room to stand safely, and return along the same path. Add a picnic separately. There is no required landmark or measured distance to reach: turn earlier if the path becomes awkward, the weather changes or a child has had enough. Keep this version on the initial river section; it needs no dam-side bridge crossing or climb to the former settlement.
Inspect the first section before committing. Track and path surfaces can be uneven or muddy; a short distance still does not guarantee pushchair or wheelchair access. Stay on the inland side of the path where practical, with an adult between small children and the river.
