About

Nestled on Galveston Island, Texas, Moody Gardens offers an extraordinary escape into a world where education meets adventure. This sprawling non-profit destination invites visitors of all ages to explore diverse ecosystems and engage with nature's wonders through its iconic glass pyramids and a myriad of other attractions. It's a vibrant blend of a world-class aquarium, a lush rainforest habitat, and an interactive science center, all designed to inspire curiosity and foster a deeper appreciation for our planet. The heart of Moody Gardens lies within its three towering pyramids. The Aquarium Pyramid plunges you into the depths of the world's oceans, housing a magnificent 1.5-million-gallon marine exhibit.

Here, you can come face-to-face with tuxedo-clad penguins, majestic sharks, graceful seals (including rescued animals like Squirt, a blind sea lion), mesmerizing jellyfish in a dedicated gallery, and thousands of vibrant tropical fish from regions spanning the Gulf of Mexico, South Atlantic, North Pacific, South Pacific, and Caribbean. Interactive exhibits and touch tanks offer immersive learning experiences, emphasizing vital conservation messages. Just a short stroll away, the Rainforest Pyramid transports you to the steamy, biodiverse jungles of Asia, Africa, and the Americas. This 10-story, multi-level environment is a living testament to vanishing rainforests, home to over 1,700 exotic plants and endangered animals. Keep an eye out for free-roaming saki monkeys, cotton-top tamarins, and two-toed sloths gracefully moving through the canopy, while on the forest floor, you might encounter the impressive Komodo dragons, elusive ocelots, and playful giant Amazon river otters.

Free-flying birds and fascinating insect colonies, like the leafcutter ants and a European bee colony, further enrich this immersive experience. Beyond these captivating biological worlds, the Discovery Pyramid sparks imagination with its rotating interactive exhibits focused on art, science, and technology. Past exhibits have included "20,000 Leagues: An Interactive Adventure" and "Jam Remastered: The Science of Music," ensuring there's always something new to explore. Moody Gardens also boasts a seasonal Palm Beach with white sand, a lazy river, and wave pool for summer fun, thrilling Sky Trail Ropes Course and Zip Line, state-of-the-art 3D and 4D theaters, and scenic cruises aboard the Colonel Paddlewheel Boat. Moody Gardens began its remarkable journey in the mid-1980s, established as a non-profit initiative by The Moody Foundation. It originated with a unique hippotherapy riding program designed to assist individuals with head injuries. From these humble and therapeutic beginnings, Moody Gardens quickly evolved with a grand vision to become a premier tourist attraction and an educational/leisure facility in the Southwest. The expansion saw the introduction of Palm Beach in 1988, followed by the Rainforest Pyramid in 1993, the Discovery Pyramid in 1997, and the Aquarium Pyramid in 1999, progressively adding to its world-class offerings and solidifying its reputation as a leading educational and recreational destination.
