Tierpark Ueckermünde

Visit Tierpark Ueckermünde for red pandas, a walk-through monkey forest and a family day that leaves plenty of room for play.

About

Visit Tierpark Ueckermünde for red pandas, a walk-through monkey forest and a family day that leaves plenty of room for play. The zoo mixes animals from around the world with a closer look at local wildlife in the Haff-Aquarium. Start near the entrance with the otters and aquarium, then decide how much of the park your family wants to explore.

The Affenwald is a particularly good place to slow down. Watch the Barbary macaques from the visitor path, or let children use the adjoining climbing playground, where they can look down into the monkey area. Sitting quietly and following one animal is often more rewarding than trying to see every enclosure. Farther around the zoo, lions, wolves and flamingos give you very different movements, shapes and social groups to compare.

Save some attention for the red pandas. Two females arrived from zoos in Poland and Italy in April 2026, and Ueckermünde participates in the European conservation breeding programme for the species. Look into the trees as well as along the ground; an animal resting on a branch can be surprisingly easy to miss. The smaller residents deserve a turn too: the tropical house includes day geckos, green snakes and an assortment of insects. Education has been part of the zoo’s work since 1983. The Zooschule gained its own building in September 1988 and continues to offer sessions from preschool through secondary school, using the animal enclosures as outdoor classrooms.

What to do here

Choose from the circuits on the official zoo plan: orange arrows mark 0.9 km, green 1.4 km and blue 2 km. The shorter options keep you in the more densely arranged entrance and central sections; the full 2 km circuit reaches the extended deer-and-wolf area. These distances are the walks themselves, so allow extra time for watching, buildings and play. Use the zoo’s coloured arrows rather than trying to visit animals in a fixed numerical order.

For younger children, combine the otters and Haff-Aquarium with the monkey forest and the Erlebnisbauernhof’s dwarf-goat petting area. Choose a manageable circuit and add a playground break before attention fades. With more time, take the full circuit and pause at the wolves, then return to whichever animal everyone wants to watch again. Ask children to compare how a wolf walks, an otter swims and a gecko moves around its enclosure. A quick sketch of one animal can reveal details that a hurried photograph misses.

Seasonal info

The published hours are 10: 00–18:00 through 31 October 2026, then 10:00–15:00 from 1 November 2026 to 28 February 2027. Fine-weather winter weekends may run longer, but plan around the earlier closing time. The zoo closes on 24 and 31 December. Check the opening page for your visit date.

Accessibility

The zoo describes its paths, doors and walk-through enclosures as pushchair- and wheelchair-friendly. Wheelchairs and handcarts can be hired in the entrance area for a fee and refundable deposit. For particular surface, gradient or accessible-toilet requirements, call 039771 54940 before visiting. The entrance building has toilets and a baby-changing room; toilets marked with a sun on the plan are seasonal.

Wildlife and habitats

Start with the branches. Look for a curled body or hanging tail before scanning the ground; if a panda moves, follow it quietly without calling to attract its attention.

Pause before moving through the monkey forest. See which animals sit together, groom or change position, and leave their route clear if they come toward the visitor path.

Watch how a resting lion holds its ears and paws. A sleeping animal still offers details to notice; the weekend feeding talk can add a more active stop.

Scan the whole enclosure before settling at a viewing place. Follow one wolf’s movements and notice whether others join it; leave enough time for the daily seasonal feeding talk.

Watch the water and the banks rather than staring at one spot. Compare the otter’s movement on land with its swimming, or return for the seasonal afternoon feeding.

Choose one coati and watch where it points its long nose. Compare the tail and body position as it moves, keeping your own food well away from the animals.

Compare the long legs, curved bill and resting posture with other birds you have seen. Wait quietly for a change of position rather than trying to make a bird move.

Check branches and leaves slowly before assuming the enclosure is empty. Look closely at the feet when a gecko is visible, and let children draw the body outline.

Search for a long green outline among the vegetation. Let each person look independently before pointing it out; keep the glass clear and avoid disturbing the animal.

Good to know before you go

Arrival

Use Chausseestraße 76, 17373 Ueckermünde. Parking by the zoo is free; an overflow woodland car park is signed from the Ferdinandshof direction. Do not park along Mühlenfelder Straße.

Public transport

Search for Ueckermünde, Tierpark and check both journeys separately. The current 911 and 912 timetables are Monday–Friday services with school-day and holiday variations; do not assume a weekend connection.

Tickets and re-entry

Tickets are available at the entrance and online through the zoo website. Compare the family options before buying. Ordinary admission tickets lose their validity when you leave, so bring what you need inside.

Food and play

The Affenschänke is beside the monkey forest’s climbing playground. The grill outlet near the kangaroos also overlooks a play area, making either a useful family break when open.

Wet weather

Spend longer in the Haff-Aquarium and tropical house. You will still use outdoor paths between buildings, so bring waterproofs and keep the circuit flexible.

Animal contact

Stay on visitor paths and give animals room to move away. At the petting area, supervise children closely; any feeding must use zoo-bought food and follow the signs and staff instructions. Never offer your own snacks.

Photography

Personal photos and video are allowed without disturbing or dazzling the animals. The zoo requires prior management permission for publication or commercial use, so ask before posting your pictures publicly.

Frequently asked questions
