Bright Angel Park boasts a heartwarming origin story, established in 1958 through the generous donation of land by local residents, Jack and Mabel Fleetwood. Initially, the donation comprised 4.13 hectares of old-growth river bottom, which has since grown to the current 22.3 hectares. Jack Fleetwood, of Irish descent, was a strong believer in guardian angels and named the park "Bright Angel" in honor of these guiding spirits, attributing his survival through difficult times to their presence. He was also a respected business owner and writer, often drawing inspiration from the park's natural beauty for his poems.
