The village features 20 original Shaker buildings, including the architectural marvel of the 1826 Round Stone Barn, the only circular barn ever built by the Shakers. Visitors can wander through the meticulously restored Shaker Dwelling House, where they can experience room settings that illustrate daily life, and observe demonstrations of traditional Shaker crafts like woodworking, weaving, and oval box making. Explore the 20 historic buildings and 22,000 artifacts, chat with knowledgeable interpreters, watch craft demonstrations, visit the farm animals, wander through the gardens, and hike the nature trails.
Spring: "Baby Animals Festival" (April-May) is a popular event featuring lambs, piglets, calves, chicks, and goat kids.
Summer/Fall: Enjoy the gardens at their peak, attend various workshops and special events.
Late Fall/Winter: Holiday programming and special events are scheduled on weekends after Thanksgiving and through much of December.
The Visitor Center, restrooms, galleries, store, and cafe are wheelchair accessible. Compact-dirt pathways and boardwalks throughout the Village provide access to gardens and grounds, including the mile-long Farm & Forest Trail. Some historic buildings, like the Round Stone Barn and Trustees' Office & Store, are wheelchair accessible via ramp, but most historic buildings are not. Visitors using wheelchairs receive free admission. Limited wheelchairs are available for loan. Service dogs are welcome, but pets are not.
An iconic three-story circular barn built in 1826, renowned for its ingenious design that optimized efficiency for dairy farming. Visitors can see heritage-breed farm animals within the Dairy Ell connected to the barn.
This large 1830 residence once housed up to 100 Shakers, with distinct living quarters for men and women, a kitchen, dining room, and worship space. It also features room-setting exhibitions, including an infirmary.
