The Albuquerque Aquarium officially opened its doors in 1996, alongside the Botanic Garden, as part of the broader Albuquerque Biological Park, now known as the ABQ BioPark. This expansion brought together the aquarium, botanic garden, and the existing Rio Grande Zoo, creating a comprehensive environmental institution focused on conservation and public education. The BioPark celebrated the 25th anniversary of the Aquarium and Botanic Garden in 2021, marking a quarter-century of connecting visitors with diverse ecosystems.
