The Newport Aquarium opened its doors on May 1, 1999, and is owned by Herschend Family Entertainment Corp. From its inception, the aquarium has been committed to high standards of animal welfare, conservation, and education, earning accreditation from the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA). Notably, the aquarium became the first to successfully breed shark rays in captivity, a significant achievement in marine conservation. Since its opening, it has continuously introduced new and engaging exhibits, such as "Shipwreck: Realm of the Eels" (2020) and the "Coral Reef Tunnel" (2022), enhancing the visitor experience and reaffirming its status as a leading aquatic institution.
