The vision for Palma Sola Botanical Park began in 1990, when concerned citizens and community groups rallied to save a 10-acre site that had long served as the Manatee County Nursery. This grassroots effort led to the formation of the non-profit Palma Sola Botanical Park Foundation, Inc., established in 1993, with the goal of transforming the former nursery into a valuable green space and public park. In 1996, the Foundation entered a long-term agreement with the Manatee County Government, solidifying the park's establishment. A significant enhancement occurred in 2008 when the Manatee Rare Fruit Council introduced an extensive collection of exotic fruit trees, enriching the park's botanical diversity and educational offerings. Today, the park operates through community support, donations, and dedicated volunteers, maintaining its mission to provide an interactive learning environment and preserve natural resources.
