The land where Shoreline Park South now resides has a notable history intertwined with the region's development. Beginning around 1560, the deep waters of Santa Rosa Sound made this area an ideal location for ship repair, utilized first by the Spanish, then by the British who named it English Navy Cove. After changing hands, the U.S. Army under Andrew Jackson took control in 1818. In 1962, the U.S. Bureau of Land Management transferred the 153-acre property to Santa Rosa County, with the stipulation that it be developed as a public park, securing its future as a natural and recreational asset for the community. The City of Gulf Breeze, incorporated in 1961, has since poured resources into beautifying the area, expanding accessibility while preserving its natural integrity.

- Starting September 1, 2023, parking fees are implemented at Shoreline Park South. For vehicles only, the first half-hour is free, then it's $1 per hour up to $10 per 24 hours. An annual pass can be purchased for $75. For vehicles with trailers, it's $10 for launching only, or $20 for launching and parking for 24 hours. An annual pass for trailers costs $150. City of Gulf Breeze residents (32561 zip code) can utilize parking free of charge after registering their vehicles. Non-residents also need to register. Payments can be made via the Flowbird App or Text-to-Park.
- Yes, leashed dogs are welcome on the trails at Shoreline Park South, but they are not permitted on the beach or boardwalk. The park also features an off-leash dog park. Rules for the dog park include ensuring dogs are legally licensed and vaccinated, remaining on a leash when entering and exiting, being under handler control, and handlers cleaning up waste. Children under 9 are not allowed in the off-leash area, and those aged 9-12 must be accompanied by an adult. Handlers must be 16 or older and are limited to two dogs.
