Good to know before you go

Prepare for insects

Especially during warmer months (summer), bring insect repellent, consider a screen room/tent, and wear light-colored clothing as flies are attracted to dark colors.

Bring your own watercraft or rent early

While kayak, canoe, and paddleboard rentals are available, they operate on a first-come, first-served basis and are subject to weather and staff availability. If you have your own, there's a free launch for canoes and kayaks.

Plan for water activities

Water is the main attraction; ensure you're prepared for paddling or boating to fully experience the park. Consider water shoes and quick-dry clothing.

Waterfowl hunting is permitted on the island portion during certain seasons, so be aware of these times if you plan to visit.

Visit the observation tower

Located near the nature center, it offers excellent views over the saltmarshes and is a prime spot for birdwatching.

Pack essentials for island excursions
