Lynn Canyon Park officially opened its gates on September 12, 1912, thanks to a generous donation of 12 acres of canyon land from the McTavish brothers. They envisioned a park that would draw people to their real estate developments in the burgeoning Lynn Valley area. The District of North Vancouver accepted their gift, adding another 4 acres to establish the municipal park. The area itself has a much longer history, known as X̱á7elcha by the Squamish people. The name "Lynn" is a historical misspelling, as Lynn Creek and the surrounding valley were originally named after sapper John Linn, a Royal British Engineer, in 1871. Over the decades, the park has expanded significantly from its original 12 acres to more than 600 acres, becoming one of North Vancouver's most beloved natural attractions. ---

Public washrooms with baby changing facilities are located next to the Lynn Canyon Café. Guide and assistance dogs are permitted inside the Ecology Centre, while other dogs must be leashed on certain trails.
