Myriad Botanical Gardens is a vibrant, 15-acre urban park and botanical garden nestled in the heart of downtown Oklahoma City, offering a refreshing escape from the city bustle. Its crown jewel is the iconic Crystal Bridge Tropical Conservatory, a stunning cylindrical glass structure that houses a rich collection of plant life. Recently renovated, the conservatory provides an immersive experience with new plant collections, a serene reflecting pool, and a captivating waterfall feature, making it a beloved natural haven for both locals and visitors alike.
Inside the Crystal Bridge, visitors can explore two distinct climate zones: a humid tropical wet zone teeming with lush rainforest flora, and a tropical dry zone showcasing a fascinating array of cacti and succulents from around the world. A 35-foot cascading waterfall and elevated skywalks provide dramatic views of the diverse canopy, allowing for an intimate connection with over 750 varieties of plants. Beyond the conservatory, the outdoor grounds feature beautifully maintained ornamental gardens, a vibrant Children's Garden with splash fountains, a Great Lawn for relaxation, a peaceful lake, and even an off-leash dog park, ensuring there's something to enchant every guest.
This botanical wonderland is more than just a garden; it's a dynamic community hub that offers year-round engagement. From educational programs and horticultural classes to popular seasonal events like the Oklahoma City Flower & Garden Festival, Pumpkinville in the fall, and ice skating during "Downtown in December," Myriad Botanical Gardens provides endless opportunities for recreation, learning, and memorable experiences. Its blend of natural beauty, architectural marvel, and lively programming makes it an unforgettable destination, perfect for quiet contemplation, family adventures, or simply enjoying the outdoors. The Myriad Botanical Gardens originated in the late 1960s as a key component of an urban renewal initiative for downtown Oklahoma City, known as the Pei Plan. Influenced by Copenhagen's Tivoli Gardens, the renowned architect I.M. Pei envisioned a central green oasis for the city. The New York architectural firm Conklin + Rossant was selected in 1971 to design the gardens, with groundbreaking commencing on November 17, 1977. To bring the ambitious vision of the Crystal Bridge Tropical Conservatory to life, the Myriad Gardens Foundation was established in 1981 to raise private funds. The Crystal Bridge was constructed between 1983 and 1985 and officially opened to the public on March 25, 1988. Over the years, the gardens have seen continuous development, including significant enhancements through Project 180 and a major $11 million renovation of the Crystal Bridge Conservatory from April 2021 to November 2022, ensuring its continued beauty and accessibility.
