Explore the historical fortifications, walk or bike on the easy trails like the Fort Hunt Park Main Loop and Short Trail, enjoy a picnic at one of the reservable picnic areas, or simply relax in the large open fields. In summer, catch a free concert.
Spring & Fall: Pleasant weather for hiking and biking, with picnic areas available for reservation. The changing foliage in fall is particularly beautiful.
Summer: Warm and humid, perfect for picnics and attending the free Sunday evening concert series.
Winter: Mild with occasional snow, offering a peaceful atmosphere for walks. Picnic Area E is available year-round on a first-come, first-served basis.
Fort Hunt Park offers easy, generally flat trails suitable for various skill levels. It is TADA accessible. Restrooms and water fountains are available year-round at Pavilion A and B. A new, accessible playground near Pavilion A is anticipated to open in late Fall 2024, and several restrooms are being rehabilitated to meet up-to-date accessibility standards.
The historic gun batteries, including Battery Mount Vernon, Battery Robinson, Battery Sater, and Battery Porter, offer tangible connections to the past. The Battery Commander's Station is also a notable historical structure. Don't miss the scenic Mount Vernon Trail, which passes through the park.
